Welcome to the Edward Thomas Collection, founded in 1982 by Edward and Thomas Slatkin, who follow in the footsteps of two previous generations of proud family hotelliers and continue to develop and redefine the role of successful ownership and operation of luxury hotels.
Together with President / COO Timothy DuBois and Vice-President / Controller Jon Andera, Edward and Thomas Slatkin envision a company where the acquisition, development and management of luxurious hotel properties continue to break new ground. Literally. Over the past quarter century, ETC has enjoyed one success after another by identifying opportunities in undervalued properties and transforming them into successful hotels and resorts. Their record is stellar. Each new property further secures their place among the most aggressive visionaries operating in the hospitality industry.
The most famous example of ETC's vision is Shutters on the Beach Hotel, Santa Monica. It began as abandoned, foreclosed property perched on a dicey stretch of Santa Monica beach, in the shadows of the Santa Monica pier. Purchased in 1991, ETC set out to recaptire the tradition and elegance of America's historic beach resorts from the 20's and 30's and in the process completely reinvigorated a stretch of Santa Monica that now attracts more tourists and business travellers that even before.
ETC's commitment to the beautyfication of Santa Monica countinued with meticulous renovation of Hotel Casa del Mar, Shutters' neighboring historic landmark building. Originally built in 1926, ETC's glorious 1999 renovation redefined the space with 129 elegant guest rooms and suites, including three magnificent two-stored penthouses. This "Grand Dame" of the Santa Monica shores evokes the mood and style of both the Italian and French Riviera. Together, Shutters on the Beach and Hotel Casa del Mar have forever changed the upscale hospitality landscape of Santa Monica.
Knowing instinctively the face of luxury travel is changing, the team at ETC is developing a new concept destination for the industry. It is not a hotel in traditional sense. It will feature hi tech and hi touch amenities and services to keep guests comfortable and efficient while on the go. Thus coining the concept as a "gotel". An ETC Gotel will embrace the comfort and convenience of hotel services in this modern age and couple it with the charm of a bed and breakfast. Go Stylish, Go Simple, Go Back... Gotel. Affordable luxury, services you will use, the way you want to use them.
